MUSIC DIRECTORS (S), AOTEAROA CHORAL ACADEMY

Closing date for Applications: 21 November 2025

We are seeking the new artistic leaders for our 3-year old Aotearoa Choral Academy progamme. Working in the same artistic space of the New Zealand Youth Choir and the New Zealand Secondary Student’s Choir, the Academy provides training for singers 14-25 years of age in the proven tradition of excellence of our national choirs. Those singers may be on the pathway to successfully audition for NZYC or NZSSC. With past memberships of over 80 singers for the annual programme, the Academy is an important building block in Choirs Aotearoa’s choral pathway.

If you are experienced at working with young people, and passionate about a diverse choral repertoire including waiata from Aotearoa and the Pacific, we would love to hear from you. Our new MD(s) would have worked in a similar aspirational choral environment as a leader, and are able to deliver a programme in line with our national choirs’ pedagogy.

The MD(s) are supported by and contributes to a professional team and will benefit from a supportive partnership with the artistic team of the other national choirs.

It is envisaged that the Academy works in an annual cycle and meets 3 – 4 times per year during school holidays.

We welcome applications that are open to a co-leadership model, even joint applications. Although not mandatory, a co-leadership model suits the large size of the programme.

Interviews for this position will take place in November this year for a first course in April 2026.
